If you are tired of your Border Collie’s constant barking and have no idea on how to stop it, this article will help you handle the situation. Nobody likes a dog that is always barking without any reason. The barking can be annoying, loud and can quickly get on your nerves. However, if the barking doesn’t get to you, then probably your neighbor’s stern comments will.

It is important to understand the reason why your Collie is always barking in the first place. Since your Border Collie doesn’t speak your language, the best way they can alert you is through barking. Most times, dogs don’t bark for fun. The bark to alert you when the mailman is delivering the mail, a stranger is crossing the street or if something else that they feel is worth your attention is happening.

However, there are some Collies that bark just for the sport. They don’t bark because they have something important to tell or show the owner. Rather, they bark because they want to let out some boredom, annoy the neighbors or simply just to release some stress.

The first thing to do when your Border Collie is barking is to figure out the kind of barker it is. From there, proceed to address the problem at hand. Avoid trying to totally eliminate all types of barking as your Border Collie needs a method of communicating with you. Instead, try to control the barking.

Why Your Collie Barks and How to Stop it

The following are some common situations that Border Collie owners may face with a barking dog. If any of the problems apply to your situation, just use the suggest solution to resolve your dog’s barking problems.

Border Collie that barks when Left Home Alone

Problem: This problem is normally difficult to spot on your own. Normally, it is your neighbors who will notice it first and let you know about your dog’s barking habit. If you are getting a lot of complaints from neighbors about your Border Collie’s barking while you’re not at home, the pet may probably be doing it out of boredom.

Solution: You can try to resolve this problem by finding various ways of entertaining the dog when you’re not around. Try giving the dog a bone or some new chew toys to keep him busy. Engaging the dog in some exercise before leaving can also help resolve the situation at hand. A tired dog is a quiet dog.

If the suggested tactics don’t work, try leaving either the TV or radio on while you’re away. Hearing voices often seems to calm the dog.

Barking Collie When Left in the Yard

Problem: Sometimes, you will notice that every time you leave your dog in yard alone, they begin barking until someone come joins them. Your Collie is not barking at a particular person but does so when you leave him in the yard alone.

Solution: This is probably happening because your Collie feels lonely and is longing for your attention. To stop the dog from barking when you are not around, give him some chew toys to play with. Leave the dog alone only for short periods of time at the beginning. This way, your Collie will get used to spending more time alone on the yard without you.

Barking Border Collie Puppy

Problem: You just bought a new Border Collie puppy and it has become a bit vocal, barking at everything without any reason. Your Collie barks at you, his toys, the furniture and even the TV. The dog that looked so cute at first has now become a really annoying beast.

Solution: Most puppies love to growl and bark when they are playing. Don’t worry about this barking since most dogs outgrow the habit as they get older. However, try to keep the barking under control. Since this barking is meant to be playful, look for games that the puppy may enjoy and will not make them bark or growl at all.

Collie Always Barks at Neighbors

Problem: You may realize the Border Collie is fond of barking nonstop when he sees the neighbors entering or leaving their house. This kind of barking is not only embarrassing, but can also cause tension between you and your neighbors. Sometimes your Collie might think that they are doing a good job by keeping people away and/or is warning you about passersby.

Solution: Since your Border Collie seems to think that your neighbors are strangers and they shouldn’t be trusted, it is best to introduce them. To resolve this problem, talk to the people living near you about meeting your dog. Your neighbors might probably be annoyed about the situation as you are, if not more, of the Collie always barking every time he sees them passing by. Once your Border Collie gets to know your neighbors, he will feel less inclined to bark every time he sees them.

Collie that Always Barks at the Mailman

Problem: Most people have to time the mailman, check mail or keep looking out the window to see if any new mail has been delivered. This is not the same case for someone with a Collie since every time the mailman stops by the house, the dog barks. As soon as the mailman arrives, your Collie will start barking and howling to alert you that there is a stranger on your property.

Solution: Your Collie may perceive the mailman as a stranger and you know that you cannot trust strangers. To change the situation, let your Collie know that the mailman is not a threat that should worry them. Go out and greet the mailman, ensure that the dog sees you doing it. This will show your Collie that you are familiar with the mailman and you are on friendly terms with them.
