Every dog owner likes spoiling their dog. This, of course, includes giving them treats that they don’t really need. In this article, you will learn of some of the healthier treats you can give to your Border Collie without having to feel guilty later. Try to avoid using store bought treats because it is not really easy to determine whether they are “Natural” or “Organic” as they are claimed to be.

Healthy Dog Veggies and Fruits

Although you may feel giving your Border Collie veggies or fruits as treats is punishing them, most dogs will probably disagree with you. Although dogs have diverse tastes like humans, most of them enjoy eating healthy veggies and fruit as treats.

Some of the veggies you can give to your Border Collie include:

  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Zucchini
  • Cauliflower
  • Cucumber

For healthy dog fruit treats, consider the following:

  • Raspberries
  • Bananas
  • Pineapples
  • Mangos
  • Blueberries
  • Apples
  • Pears

You can cook the vegetables before giving them to your dogs. The downside of feeding vegetables to your dog is that their digestive system is not built to completely process plants. Dogs are carnivores by nature. Therefore, make sure you only give them these treats in moderation.

Dog Vegetable and Fruit Treats to Avoid

Some vegetables and fruits are not good for your dog. In some cases, they may poisonous. Avoid giving your Border Collie the following:

  • Grapes
  • Onions
  • Citrus Fruits (Lemons, Oranges etc.)
  • Raisins
  • Raw potatoes
  • Fruit Seeds

If you want your Border Collie not to have stomach complications or even end up dying, avoid giving them the fruits and veggies mentioned above. You should also be careful with the kind of store-bought treats you are feeding your Border Collie.
